ISTRID was created in the late ’70 by a few members of the Senato della Repubblica Italiana e della Camera dei Deputati, engaged in security and defense, representing all major political parties in Italy.
The goal of ISTRID is to initiate and lead discussion on the topic of security and defense on the international scene. For this purpose, the Institute promotes research, training and information activities, addressed at all actors and stakeholders in the subject matter . This includes professionals, politicians, public administrations and military.
ISTRID is  is an authoritative, independent institute from the secretary for Defense. ISTRID is a non-profit organization with legal status.
